GIVING BACK
Century Club and The Buick Invitational Donates a Record $1.175 Million to Charity
NEARLY $9.4 RAISED BY THE CENTURY CLUB SINCE 1968. OVER 150 SAN DIEGO BASED ORGANIZATIONS AND HIGH SCHOOLS ARE RECEIVING FUNDS FROM THE 2005 TOURNAMENT.

Numbers are a huge part of golf. How many under par were you today, how many birdies did you make and how much was first prize worth, are all numbers that are talked about at professional golf events every year.
The Century Club of San Diego is quite proud of their record number of donations to the local community from the 2005 Buick Invitational.
The 2005 Buick Invitational set a record of $1.175 million being donated to over 150 San Diego based organizations and high schools from net proceeds from the 2005 event.
Since the inception of this tournament in 1952, the donation figure from the 2005 Buick Invitational represents the single largest amount of funds earmarked for local charities in the 53-year history of the event.
The majority of the funds came from the Century Club’s Support Our Schools (S.O.S) program, Chip-In for Charity program, Helicopter Ball Drop fundraiser, San Diego County Junior Golf Association fundraisers, Pro Kids Golf Academy tournament and auction, and Military Appreciation activities.
Since the inception of this tournament in 1952, the donation figure from the 2005 Buick Invitational represents the single largest amount of funds earmarked for local charities in the 53-year history of the event.
The announcement was made by Dave McDonough, 2005 President of the Century Club of San Diego, which has been the organizing body of the annual PGA TOUR stop for 43 straight years.
Since the tournament moved to Torrey Pines in 1968, nearly $9.5 million has been distributed to local charities.
“The most gratifying day of the year for our organization is when we make our announcement of charity donations. It is what we strive for each and every year,” said Dave McDonough. “It is especially fulfilling for the Century Club to eclipse the $1 million dollar mark for the very first time. Along with our major partners Buick, PGA TOUR, and City of San Diego, our tournament has been an integral part of the San Diego community for over five decades. Along with our partners, we wish to also thank all of our sponsors, spectators, and volunteers for helping us make this annual major sporting event so successful.”
