2006 WINTER SCORE CARD

Diamond in the Rough Gala
A Night To Remember

Jay LenoDue to the overwhelming success of last year’s Century Club Diamond in the Rough Gala, the Century Club of San Diego donated $134,000 to both the Pro Kids Golf Academy and Monarch School. Surpassing all expectations, with over 1,000 guests in attendance, everyone was able to enjoy an evening full of glitz and glamour. The evening featured wine tasting from ten of the most prestigious wineries, silent and live auctions and entertainment by Grammy Award winning artist Trisha Yearwood. The Century Club of San Diego plans to make this year’s event even bigger and better by preparing for an even larger audience.

This year’s Diamond in the Rough Gala will be Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, California. This black-tie optional event will feature wine tasting, a silent and live auction, and dinner. In addition, the Century Club of San Diego has decided to end the night with a different twist. Instead of a musical performance, this year’s Gala will feature one of the country’s premier comedians, Jay Leno.

Jay Leno follows in the footsteps of legendary NBC late-night hosts Steve Allen, Jack Paar and Johnny Carson and is the host of the Emmy Award-winning and top-rated “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Beginning his 15th season in May 2006, Leno has created his own unique late-night style with a combination of humor, talk and entertainment each night. Leno’s “everyman” style and personality has helped him earn millions of fans worldwide. He has been touted as one of the nicest people in show business and the hardest working -- a winning combination for the man who says “Anyone can have a life - careers are hard to come by!”

To continue the Century Club of San Diego’s reputation as a major benefactor to local charities throughout San Diego, all proceeds from this year’s Gala will directly benefit the Pro Kids Golf Academy and Monarch School once again. The money raised will enable both beneficiaries the opportunity to continue making a difference in young children’s lives.

The Pro Kids Golf Academy provides a safe, healthy, and positive environment for San Diego’s inner-city youth. With the help of the Academy, young members are given the opportunity to have access to golf, life-skills instruction, a mentoring program and computer learning center for free. The Academy also allows children to be able to earn academic scholarships to further their education. Their hope is by offering these opportunities, children will have the ability to dream, establish goals, and build self-esteem that will strengthen them for the future.

The Monarch School is the other charity who will benefit from this event. The Monarch School is a joint effort between the San Diego County Office of Education and the Monarch School Project. For 18 years the Monarch School has been devoted to providing homeless and at-risk children, ages 8 -18 years, a chance to achieve their dreams of living normal productive lives. While caring for their basic needs; food, clothing, and medical care, they are able to receive an accredited education that will give them the support to fight against the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
