Kenny Kim Wins Amateur Qualifier
Kenny Kim of Cerritos captured the 2008 Buick Invitational Amateur
Qualifying tournament with a four-under par score of 68 on the South
Course at Torrey Pines, earning the one sponsor exemption, out of a
starting field of 96 players, with a 0 or better handicap.
Kim, a senior at UC Irvine, working towards a degree in sociology, made birdie on the 18th hole for a one-shot win over Blake Moore who posted 3-under-par score of 69.
Kim layed up on the par 5 18th, and hit a wedge for a two-foot birdie. Kim's round featured an eagle on the 6th hole and birdies on 7, 9,10 and 18.
This is the 23rd year the Century Club of San Diego has sponsored this event that will enable one amateur player to compete against 155 other professional players at Torrey Pines at the Buick Invitational from January 21-27.
